Carrier Oil is a vegetable oil derived
from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds,
kernels or the nuts.
Technically
classed as 'fixed' oils because they do not evaporate, carrier
oils are also known as base oils and vegetable oils.
Carrier
oils are used to dilute Essential oils, CO2's, and absolutes
before applying to the skin in Aromatherapy.
Some
carrier oils are odorless, but generally speaking, most have
a faintly sweet, nutty aroma.
Different carrier oils offer
different properties and the choice of carrier oil depends
on the aromatherapy benefit being
sought as they contain vitamins, minerals and essential fatty
acids, and many of them soften and improve the condition of
the skin.
