Pineapple is the second most popular tropical fruit. Pineapple is also
known as Piña, Nanas and Ananas. Related Species of
Pineapple - Pina de Playon (Ananas bracteatus). The pineapple
is native to southern Brazil and Paraguay where wild relatives
occur. It was spread by the Indians up through South and
Central America to the West Indies before Columbus arrived.
Today, almost a third of the world's production and sixty
percent of canned pineapple comes from Hawaii. Other than
Hawaii, other top producers of pineapple are: Costa Rica,
Mexico, Honduras, South Africa, Taiwan, Dominican Republic,
