Prayer
flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers,
and mantras. Tibetan Buddhists for centuries have planted these
flags outside their homes and places of spiritual practice for
the wind to carry the beneficent vibrations across the countryside.
Prayer flags are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity
to the flag planter and those in the vicinity.
Tibetan Prayer Flags are hung high in the mountains, on tree
tops , bridges, roof tops , outside monasteries, holy sites,
or any place where they can catch the wind to bring and spread
wishes of Peace and Good Luck.
Prayer flags are gentle reminders that bring us back to our essence
and help us to open our hearts and minds. When we hang prayer
flags, we create the intention for more kindness for ourselves
and all beings. As they wave in the wind, prayer flags lift up
and carry our wishes for compassion, peace and healing around
the earth. They are like Blessings in the Wind.
Tibetan Prayer Flags feature five colors. Each color symbolizes
a different element and their order is strictly followed from
left to right or top to bottom:
