Health benefits of Tamarind

The tangy and sweet Tamarind (botanical name Tamarindus Indica) is one of the most popular spice-condiments used in South Asia. It is a much priced herb having many culinary, medicinal and ornamental uses. The name has Persian roots, 'tamar-I-hind', that means, 'the date of India'. Tamarinds have a characteristic sweet and sour taste, which becomes sweeter when they ripen.

Tamarind aids in digestion, boosts our immune system, improvises blood circulation, is useful in managing diabetes and in improving nervous system. It also helps to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and is a very good remedy for reducing joint pain, inflammation etc. It aids in weight loss by inhibiting the storage of fats.
